It’s no secret: I absolutely adore the Grishaverse. That’s why I’m planning on hosting a Shadow and Bone watch party for the premiere of the show’s second season.
Okay, so in reality, this “watch party” may just be me, my cat, and the soundbar cranked all the way up to hear every Nichevo’ya cry and line The Darkling delivers (I still refuse to call him “General Kirigan”). No matter what the circumstances, I can tell you right now that I’ve never been more excited about a new season of a television show. That’s right, I’m even more hyped for this than I was for the premiere of Shadow and Bone in 2021! A lot of that is due to the fact that I already know how much I adore the show, but it also has to do with the additions to the cast. Season two is going to include some of my very favorite characters: Tolya and Tamar, Nikolai, and Wylan! I seriously can’t wait to see what they add to the story.
Simultaneously, I’m nervous about the showrunners’ decision to mash storylines from both the second and third books. I’m not sure how that will change things but I’m hoping it’s for the better. I trust them a lot after such a phenomenal first season. They did a wonderful job embellishing the original plot (like essentially adding a prequel storyline for the Crows and making Mal’s character likable for once), so I have faith that this second season will be just as magnificent. I’ve already watched the trailer about a million and two times, so I’m certainly prepared! I can’t wait for March 16th so that I can watch and rewatch the show 2x daily until another season is announced, just like I did the first time around. To say I’m a fangirl might be a bit of an understatement at this point.

3 Incredible Shadow and Bone Watch Party Essentials
1. Your love for all things Shadow and Bone
This is obviously the most important thing to bring to your Shadow and Bone watch party! Whether you’ve been reading (and rereading) the books for years, or you’re a Grishaverse fandom newbie, it’s crucial that you show up with all the excitement you can muster. I highly suggest rewatching the first season to fill your brain with all of the best trivia. This will make watching the new episodes even more thrilling!
2. Themed drinks to enjoy while you watch
At the viewing party that my friend hosted for the first season of the show, we made specialty cocktails and they were a major hit! In fact, we wound up getting together and filming how we made them on the day that we attended the Zoom meet-and-greet with the cast. You can find the three Grisha-approved recipes right here to whip up during your season two event! I’d suggest some festive foods as well, but the only thing that comes to mind when I think about the books is herring, and I’m not sure that’s the best party snack. However, the Grishaverse Wiki has an excellent list of canon cuisine that might inspire you.
3. Shadow and Bone apparel and decor
What better way to have a Shadow and Bone watch party than in your Six of Crows t-shirt, drinking out of a Sankt Milo mug, while snuggled up with your Darkling pillow? If you ask me, it’s way more fun to have all sorts of apparel, housewares, and other tchotchkes along with your collection of books. These items make for great picture-taking opportunities. Want to take it one step further? You can make your own kefta based on your Grisha order, found in this official quiz. (*Fun fact: I’m a Tailor, just like my all-time favorite character, Genya)!
I’m really looking forward to this too! I’ll have to go and rewatch the first season soon.
