How To Make the Most of the New Natural Defense Collection by Physicians Formula

If you’re looking to protect your skin from harmful sun-rays, blue light, and pollution, look no further than the Physicians Formula Natural Defense line.

This collection features five products that are meant to guard your skin and keep it healthy! You may have laughed if you’d been a fly on the wall the day I received the email from Physicians Formula, asking if I wanted to test this brand new collection. I couldn’t decide whether to laugh, cry, dance, jump for joy, or scream and call my mom. So naturally, I did all of the above. This was the first beauty brand I ever used, as a young pre-teen, and to this day, it’s one of my favorites! I love that the products are affordable, hypoallergenic, cruelty-free, and high quality!

I wanted to make sure that before I provided my opinions on these products, that I did thorough testing. I wore the entire line together, as a full face of makeup, I tried each product individually with some of my other favorites, and some of them I tried on their own (like the primer, concealer, and blush). I did wear tests with different setting sprays, wore them in the sun and indoors, and tried them for an extended period of time to see how well they last throughout the day. All of this to ensure that I provide a proper review!

Primer

Website description: A lightweight, fast-absorbing, alcohol-free primer oil that blurs, protects, and perfects with our exclusive complex to prep skin for smooth, flawless makeup application. SPF 15.
My thoughts: This is definitely not a product I would use in the summertime when I’m already experiencing oily skin in excess. That being said, it definitely is a product I’d use during the winter when I’m experiencing dryness. It’s also great if you’re just looking for a glow without makeup or you need additional SPF.

Who this product is for: Someone with mature skin, dry skin, or someone looking to add moisture to their skin beneath their makeup during the winter season.

Concealer

Website description: A lightweight, medium-to-full coverage concealer that blurs, protects, and perfects with our exclusive complex for a smooth, flawless complexion. Features a unique cushion tip for easy targeted application. SPF 30.
My thoughts: Great on discoloration or acne spots, but not necessarily for under-eye coverage. It’s blend-able and buildable, without getting caky or sticking to texture, and it actually comes in a shade that’s light enough for my fair skin.
Who this product is for: Someone looking for additional coverage.

Foundation

Website description: A lightweight, sheer-to-light foundation that blurs, protects & perfects with our exclusive complex for a smooth, flawless complexion. SPF 30.
My thoughts: If I’m working from home and want a little coverage or I’m heading to the pool/beach and want to look naturally glowy while staying protected from the sun, this is the foundation I would choose. The coverage isn’t what I’d typically go for, and the scent is a little overwhelming to me. I also noticed that when trying to build it up, it became caky and creased, so it really is made for sheer coverage/color.
Who this product is for: Someone who prefers a “no makeup” makeup look or just wants a light coverage during the summertime. Someone who prefers a matte finish.

Blush

Website description: An easy-to-use all-over color stick for the cheeks, eyes, and lips that blurs, protects, and perfects with our exclusive complex for smooth, on-the-go application. SPF 20.
My thoughts: I’m typically not one who enjoys color sticks because they usually don’t have great color payoff beneath foundation and powder, or they remove the coverage of the concealing products if applied on top. However, this is an excellent blush and it provides a natural glow, even when applied beneath foundation and powder!
Who this product is for: Someone looking for a natural flush to their cheeks.

Powder

Website description: A lightweight, breathable, translucent finishing powder that blurs, protects, and perfects with our exclusive complex for a smooth flawless complexion. SPF 20.
My thoughts: I had been on the hunt for the perfect under-eye powder since my previous favorite was discontinued. This powder adds coverage, doesn’t get caky, and has great lasting power. It also has a lighter scent than the liquid products.
Who this product is for: Someone looking for additional coverage or a great under-eye setting powder. Someone with combo-oily skin.

My Overall Thoughts

Each of these products serves a great purpose, depending on when and how you use them, so I can honestly say that I recommend all of them. The shade range, while small, encompasses a great deal of skin tones. Considering how affordable the products are, if I couldn’t find one that is identical to my skin, I wouldn’t be opposed to purchasing two shades to mix in order to create the “perfect” formula. I didn’t love the strong floral scent throughout this line, but I realize that some people have no qualms with scented skincare, and they might even enjoy this particular fragrance. I only wish it had been in maybe one or two products, rather than the entire line. I love that each and every product protects my skin from the sun, blue light, and pollution with their natural guards. It makes me feel so much better about what I’m putting on my face at the beginning of the day. Overall, I’d give the line a rating of 4/5 and there are definitely items I would purchase again!
