The Perfect Slow and Cozy Fall Morning Routine
WAKE UP – this is where a lot of people will tell you to wake up early. I’m not going to tell you that, because some people genuinely cannot. I’m one of those people. My chronic illness symptoms are the worst in the mornings, so I tend to go to bed later and wake up later. I still only get 8 hours of sleep (the healthy amount), but I just do it at different times than some might.
AVOID SCREENS – if you can, don’t immediately unlock your phone to scroll. Instead, leave your phone in your bedroom while you head to the bathroom or kitchen. Alternatively, you can turn on some calming music, an audiobook or podcast, and then hit the night mode so you’re not bombarded with notifications as you go about your morning.
MAKE YOUR MORNING DRINK – for some – like myself – this is coffee. Others enjoy tea (shop my favorite tea from Steeped in Lore). Sometimes I’ll make a mug of warm spiced mocha! I know a lot of people prefer cold lemon water first thing in the morning. Take your time and be mindful while you’re making your beverage. Enjoy the process.
GET SOME FRESH AIR – whether this means sitting out on a front porch, going for a short walk, or just opening a window, let a little bit of that chilly morning air hit your lungs and wake you up! It’s so good for you, and it will seriously help your mind be alert and ready for the rest of your day.
PAUSE TO BREATHE – I like to take my coffee into my living room, open the back door, and either sit and listen to jazz or read a book while I sip my coffee. It’s such a great way to just slowly ease into your day. Even if it’s only 10 minutes of peace, it will make a difference before you launch into endless screens, communication, and chatter. This is also an excellent time to do a morning meditation. I swear by the Headspace app and try to utilize it every day.
TAKE A SHOWER – a lot of individuals prefer evening showers, and I do understand why. However, I like showers in the morning because it makes my body feel refreshed after allowing my mind to wake up in a comfortable way. If I’ve had my coffee, my fresh air, and my shower, I feel totally ready to slay my day and I’m sure you will too!
I definitely spend some time in the morning for positive writing or thinking. Like my daily gratuities.

I love showering in the morning – can’t do without it as I feel like a zombie without first showering and washing my hair. I need to try to get off the screen! I use my phone first thing in the morning and it is quite a bad habit. I also always need a cup of tea before I leave for work! 🙂
I love the cooler weather and relish any morning I can snuggle down and sleep in a little! Normally I am up by 5 and out the door walking my dogs by 6! So slow mornings are always a treat for me!
I need to make a walk the first thing I do in the morning. I do it sometimes, but it really sets the tone for my day. As for a shower (especially with COVID), that’s another story…lol!
This is a great morning routine for sure. I can’t think of a better way to prepare myself for the day than by following a routine similar to this!

cute & little
The first thing I usually do is wake up and make my bed. That always seems to do the trick for helping me get ready for the day.
This sounds like the perfect fall morning routine. I always struggle to get up when it is still dark and cold outside. I will definitely be following some of these tips!
I am an early riser and actually enjoying my mornings but I like your tips. People can truly benefit if they struggle starting their mornings.

I love this routine! I need to be better about not reaching for my screen first thing in the morning.
these are such great tips! I am trying to be more of an early riser but some days it is hard! I need to avoid looking at screens first thing for sure.

My routine is usually get up and have some coffee and take my pups for a walk around the neighborhood to enjoy the cooler weather! Trying to take advantage before it gets too cold.
Coffee is such a ritual in the morning, and I don’t want a morning without it. This is such a solid morning routine, and I really wish I was better at not getting on my device right away!
These are really great ideas! I’ve come to really enjoy my morning routine 🙂 I’m definitely a morning show kind of gal too! It makes me feel ready to take on the day!

I love the photos of this article!
I don’t take showers in the morning, unless I work out and then it’s kind of necessary. But there is something about waking up to a chilly morning that is so comforting and peaceful. This year was so weird (it stopped in March for me) and haivng autumn mornings back feels refreshing.
Starting the day right is everything to me. I love how you include getting some fresh air in there.
Showering first thing always helps me get going. I def need to make more of an effort to get some fresh air daily! xoxo. Sarah
Showers and morning drinks also help me get out of bed on a colder day. These are great suggestions.

this sounds soo perfect for a fall weekend morning! for week days, I typically get up and get that fresh air while I do a workout and then a little walk around the neighborhood. so not quite as slow of a morning but still love the fresh air and enjoying the beauty of fall!

Super useful. Not using screens alone would have a big impact on me. 🙂
Great tips! I actually am an early riser but I totally understand that some people just physically can’t get up early. I love that you acknowledge that! I find that just getting up and moving really helps me get motivated to be productive the rest of the day. I have a dog that requires a walk before his breakfast so he keeps me accountable ha!
I love this tips! Fall is my favorite time of year and one of the things I love about it is how cozy it is during this time of year. The warmer hues, the cooler weather and slower mornings. I’ll have to try some of these – especially on the weekends!
I love a good morning routine. The first half hour, I really like to just sip on my cup of coffee and enjoy the calmness.

This is just what I needed! Because of quarantine, it’s been extra difficult to get up in the morning but I’ll definitely try out these tips!
Love these tips! I’ve been struggling with my daily journal entries — doing it at the end of the day means I usually forget or fall asleep. Maybe what I need is to make it part of my morning routine while I enjoy my coffee…a little brain dump, caffeine + fresh air might be just the right combo for me. Thanks!
We dont have fall season here in our and upon reading all these fall related posts, I wish we have it too. Cosy and relaxed! Love this post x
My morning routine consists of having a coffee and relaxing/waking up slowly before waking up the child for school
I really love the tip to avoid your screens first thing in the morning. It really is much more enjoyable if you just savor the moment
I love how slow and simple this is. I always tend to want to rush and get my chores done but this would make my mornings so much better.
Theres nothing better than a warm shower on a cold fall morning. I definitely need to be better about not going straight onto my phone after waking up.. such a bad habit!!
I want to be more intentional about avoiding screen time first thing in the AM. I definitely think it will help impact my mood (and sanity!)
I always have to get up early and do my routine or my day is totally thrown off! Great post!
these are all great tips! I always try to wake up, shower & make coffee before checking my phone, butttt it doesn’t always work out that way ha! I also try to get in some reading time before I fully start my day!
We don’t have fall here but the rainy season! I start my morning by checking my phone (my bad habit) and need to change this habit 🙁
I love your list here and I hope I can follow some of these great tips!
Love the idea of getting some fresh air first thing! I’m going to try to take morning walks with my coffee
Mornings are so important to me and I love a good slow morning routine. I hate feeling rushed, so I love to take my time. One thing I am working on though is picking my phone up first thing in the morning. It’s a bad habit I and I need to stop LOL.
This sounds like a great morning routine! I am totally guilty of rolling out of bed right before I need to start working, and then just getting into it without taking time to relax. I have been enjoying my morning coffee a bit more this year though. I like to take the time to make a fancy latte or iced coffee, depending on the weather. I love the idea of adding some fresh air time into my morning, so I’ll be figuring out how to do that.
These are all such great ideas! For me personally staying off screens for 30 min helps a ton. But it’s hard to do for sure.
So many. great ideas! I used to shower at night, but I am finding showering in the morning really gets my day. going
Love these cozy fall ideas especially morning walks. It makes me appreciate all the new fall colors from the changing of the leaves.
Fab suggestions! I love a slow and relaxing morning routine any season, though.

I am always happy to wake up when I get to make coffee and enjoy a cool morning! The best!
Since I have had the baby my morning routine is a bit messy. I really have to start implementing all those tips into my early hours 🙂
I love that you included sitting on a porch. That’s my favorite thing to do, year round really. Waking up and having breakfast or coffee outside is just the best feeling to me.
I really love the bit about getting some fresh air! I always let the dogs out while I start my coffee, but never step outside to just breathe it all in! definitely definitely going to start doing this!
Ok, you are reallllyyy speaking my language here! I’m not a morning person at all, so I love to take my mornings slow. I feel like I need that time to really get myself centered for the day. Once I’ve taken my time to get up, had my coffee, and get some lo-fi beats flowing, I am totally ready to take on the day!
This is an excellent morning routine! I always wake up and move my body first thing with a three mile run! Really helps set the tone for the rest of the day and wakes me up! Then after a shower, a slow down with my coffee-making routine. The absolute best way to start the day for sure!
it’s getting chilly here this week due to the monsoon season (starting way late honestly) and i really want to wake up at 7am and go for a run even if all i want to do is sleep in. the run in the chilly air makes me feel really good for the rest of the day. i hope to create that routine and read or blog in the mornings.
