The Versatility of a Bold Boyfriend Blazer for Spring 2018

I’m not sure I’ve ever loved a piece of clothing as much as I love this bold, yellow boyfriend blazer.

Truly, this item has been a game-changer when it comes to how I think about transitioning my wardrobe from winter to spring.  I knew when I started shopping for the upcoming season, that vibrant colors and patterns would become a huge part of the creative process. I’m constantly inspired by bright tones, so just adding this blazer to my closet instantly gave me a handful of styling ideas.

One of the most brilliant things about a blazer such as this one, is that it can be incredibly versatile. Sure, I might wear it with a pair of polka dot pants. I also may wear it with a sundress. Later on in the season, I could wear it with a crop top and shorts. I see it even being excellent in a professional setting.  After all, that’s what blazers were originally created for, right? The best part about this one? It’s currently available in yellow, cream, and navy – and it only costs $24!  In fact, I love it so much that I’m thinking of picking up the navy one as well!

I was quite lucky to bring this blazer with me to Graduate Richmond for my birthday staycation.

Since we had the opportunity to enjoy the rooftop (though it won’t officially open to the public until April), we took advantage of the empty space with a gorgeous view, and captured photos of my outfit!  However, the wind was howling, and being that many stories up, the chill was quite fierce!  My sleeveless, backless sundress – while cute – was certainly not warm, so my blazer not only added a fun pop of color, but also provided warmth!

Time and again, I’ve found myself reaching for this piece of outerwear.  I look forward to the next opportunity I get to wear every time I have to hang it up again.  Quite a while ago, I wrote an article on mastering “business casual.”  In it, I mention that owning basics with a twist can be the one thing that will change your outlook on that style of dress.  One thing I would add, looking back, is how necessary a blazer is – especially one in a color that brings joy into your life!  You’d be surprised how wearing a happy color can change the way you feel about your work day!

Would you reach for this boyfriend blazer as often as me?  How would you style it?
