⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I'm currently reading two books that are closely related with things (outside of reading) that I love: the NBA and Marvel 🙌🏼
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Shot Clock by @justinwritesya and Caron Butler (ARC) is a middle-grade novel all about heart, hope, and of course lots of great basketball 🏀 This has been the perfect book to read while I watch the NBA conference finals ⛹🏾
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We Were Dreamers: An Immigrant Superhero Origin Story by @simuliu has been absolutely phenomenal 😍 I've been a huge fan of Simu for quite some time and learning more about his family, his life, and how he became Shang-Chi has been really incredible 💥 Plus, he narrates the audiobook 🎧
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It's really great to discover books that relate to my other interests because it just makes me feel so comforted and happy! 🤍 Now I need more books about superheroes and basketball 😉

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I didn't even know duologies were a thing until I joined bookstagram, but over the past couple of years, I've discovered several favorites (so many that I actually wrote a whole blog post about them) 🤎
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
A few that I love a little extra:
🃏 Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo
🦋 Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor
👑 A Song of Wraiths and Ruin by Roseanne A Brown
⚓️ All the Stars and Teeth by Adalyn Grace
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
And a couple with upcoming sequels I'm anticipating:
🐺 The Wilderwood by Hannah Whitten
🦢 Six Crimson Cranes by Elizabeth Lim

I lost my cool (in the best way) when @what_eats_owls announced the release date for Painted Devils, the gorgeous sequel to Little Thieves! 🥀 It's going to be torturous waiting a whole year, but I know it'll also be totally worth it! 🙌🏼
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I also can't count the number of times I've watched the trailer for First Kill - the upcoming Netflix show based on @veschwab's short story in Vampires Never Get Old: Tales with Fresh Bite 🧛🏼‍♀️ It's been quite some time since I was this excited for a vampire show 🩸
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
And in YA romance news, I'm geeking out over the cover and title reveal for @dilemmalord's next book! 🤍 It sounds like it'll be the perfect way to kick off 2023 (yes, yes I am thinking that far ahead and pondering which Taylor Swift song to pair with the release) 🙈

Do you DNF books? 🙅🏻‍♀️
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This has been such a controversial topic for so long and I've personally struggled with it A LOT 🙈 For years, I refused to quit reading a book unless the subject matter was too triggering or frightening for me to handle 🫣 I would even go so far as to read entire series that I literally didn't like, just to see if the books got any better and changed my mind 🧠
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
HOWEVER... this recently changed for me! 🙀 This month, I chose to put down four books that weren't serving me - and it was so insanely freeing! 🍾 I felt like a weight was lifted off me, not forcing myself to read things I wasn't into - and while I still might give some books the benefit of the doubt and finish them (some of my favorite books of all time started off with me feeling very so-so about them)... I will no longer be struggling my way through series I'm not enjoying or novels that make me feel uneasy 🙌🏼
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Have you ever almost DNF'd a book that you wound up loving? 🤎 Which was it? 📖

I'm all about underrated books and try to recommend my faves on a regular basis because I think that they deserve just as much love as the hyped books 🤎 BUT I also enjoy reading my fair share of hyped books (even if they don't always live up to the hype) 🙈
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The last few books I read that 100% lived up to the hype were:
🐐 Part of Your World by Abby Jimenez (this book made me feel so seen it was unreal. I wept several times)
🪷 Defy the Night by Brigid Kemmerer (I was so thrilled with how much I enjoyed this fantasy)
💄 The No-Show by Beth O'Leary (this author is usually a winner for me and her latest release didn't disappoint)
🏛 The Atlas Six by Olivie Blake (I was unsure for the first 3rd of the book but it wound up being a 5-star read by the end!)

Before starting my bookstagram account, I had no clue what a TBR (or “to be read”) list even was. Now, I can’t go without one!

I realize that for some people, their TBR is based on the books they currently own and want to read. However, because I don’t purchase books until I’ve already read them (and I’m certain I’ll read them again), my list is a culmination of series I’ve had an interest in reading, books that have been recommended to me, and new releases.

This is definitely a loose TBR because I know my reading goal for the year is set to 120 and I’m sure I’ll end up reading plenty of other titles outside of these. However, I wanted to at least give myself a few specific book goals! I did the same last year and it was so awesome to look back at the end of December and see that I really had read every book on my original list.

It really helps me know what I want to read throughout the year, so I can never have a moment of doubt. Plus, it lets me order from my library far enough in advance to get the books I want, or to research the audiobook to see if I like the narrator enough to listen to it instead. I definitely appreciate set TBRs!

I’m a list-maker by nature, so being able to check off the books I read each month was so satisfying haha! Good luck with ACOTAR 😉 I have SO many feelings on that series. The Mortal Instruments have been such a hugely popular series for years (and were even turned into a movie and a TV show) but I’ve never read them all. I read the first one back in high school and it gave me heebie-jeebies so I quite it. Totally! I mostly plan out a list like this so I have something to follow throughout the year and I don’t get too sidetracked with new releases or just meandering through old favorites.

Wow! That is quite a list, and there are a lot of fabulous ones coming out this year. I never know what I’m reading next and usually just pick up books at yard sales and thrift stores. I do know a few authors that are tried and true, though – like Beth O’Leary. Such a great one!

Haha and here I am feeling like this is my shortlist! If I read a few of these in addition to all the other books I want to pick up each month, it’ll be a breeze to finish it with my goal of 120 for the year!

I had every intention of reading Clap When You Land last year because I ADORED The Poet X and really enjoyed With the Fire on High, but I never got to it. Definitely making a point of it this year! 🙂

YES! It came out last year but I was counting down the days to the release. I listened to the first one on audiobook with my husband and it’s probably he only fictional book he’s ever liked so I plan to listen to the second one with him too (if I can ever get him to sit down long enough to do so haha)

I’ve never made a TBR list, but usually just put a library hold on anything that catches my interest as it comes along – I don’t buy books I haven’t read either, unless it’s fill a bag at the book fair!

Clap When You Land and The Gilded Ones are on my TBR too! Such an amazing list of books here, hope you enjoy the ones you get around to reading. I just finished reading The Flatshare and tbh, I wasn’t crazy about it which is a shame because everyone seems to adore that authors books. I might give another one a try anyway! x

Do you read books related to your interests? 📖 Do you read books related to your interests? 📖

What are your very favorite duologies? ✌🏼 ⠀ What are your very favorite duologies? ✌🏼

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
As you all know very well, I'm not the type of person to purchase books unless I've read them first (my exception being sequels to books I own or authors who never let me down) 🙈 That being said, I'm pretty picky about which books I DO spend my money on 💳
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I recently did a bit of a haul on #IndependentBookstoreDay to get my hands on some of my favorite books from the past year and I can't wait to have them in my hands soon! 🙌🏼 Below is the list of titles I ordered from my favorite indie shops:
🏛 The Atlas Six
👻 Gallant
✨ The Kindred
📱 The Boyfriend Project
💛 Life's Too Short
🎈 All Fired Up (pre-order, since I loved the arc)

Okay, SO, this book isn't actually out in the world yet 🙈 BUT since I haven't seen too much about it on bookstagram, I figured it's my job to help screech about how fantastic it is! 📢
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
While the gorgeous cover was certainly what drew me in (this has now landed in my top 3 fave covers of all time 😍), the story was absolutely BRILLIANT and I think everyone needs to add it to their July TBR! 📚 You're definitely going to want to get your hands on this masterpiece 🤍

What are your favorite fictional books with mental What are your favorite fictional books with mental health rep? 📚
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Did you know that May is Mental Health Month? 💚 As someone who has battled with anxiety, depression, and bipolar disorder for a great deal of my life, well written mental health rep in books is so important to me! 📖 It's always so encouraging to pick up a novel and feel truly seen while turning the pages 👀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
A few books that have really stood out to me because of their mental health rep are:
• The Midnight Library by Matt Haig (this book quite literally changed my life and it's still one that I turn to whenever I'm struggling)
• The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by VE Schwab
• A Song of Wraiths and Ruin by Roseanne A Brown
• The Bookish Life of Nina Hill by Abbi Waxman (this is another comfort book for me because I've never found another character quite as much like me as Nina)
• Amelia Unabridged by Ashley Schumacher
• Take a Hint, Dani Brown by Talia Hibbert
• The Sound of Stars by Alechia Dow
• This Might Get Awkward by Kara McDowell (this author knows how to write about anxiety in a way that's more relatable than I've seen in nearly any other book)
• It's Kind of a Funny Story by Ned Vizzini (this book got me through high school - in more ways than one)
