A friend asked me the other day how I found myself enjoying fantasy and I told her that it started when I read THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA with my family at 6 years old 🦁 It was a popular genre on the bookshelves in our home, so it came as no surprise that a few years later I was picking up THE HOBBIT and THE LORD OF THE RINGS 💍 I never really knew life without fantasy novels and I'm really grateful for the fact that my parents always encouraged my desire to read as many books from as many different genres as I could get my hands on 📚

What are your ultimate ESCAPE reads? 🌌
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
One of the reasons I love fantasy so much is because it is the furthest thing from reality! 🐉 Since reading IS my escape, I appreciate books that take me somewhere else entirely - another world, another dimension, somewhere magical 💫
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Some of my favorite escape reads are:
♠️ CARAVAL - Remember, it's only a game... or is it?
✨ THE STARLESS SEA - Follow the clues: a bee, a key, and a sword.
🗝 THE TEN THOUSAND DOORS OF JANUARY - Secret doors written into existence.
🦋 STRANGE THE DREAMER - A moth, light upon the brow, can transport you into the dream.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Honestly, just typing out these titles gave me a little shiver of delight because I just love them all so much! 🥺 Have you read any of them? 📚

I'm not at all a fan of the real "bad boy" in the stories I read, though I don't mind a tougher exterior with a kind heart 🤎 I've always preferred sweeties, so my favorite "cinnamon roll boys" are:

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
A lot of the titles I've picked up in the last year have been influenced by bookstagram 📱 I feel like I'm adding a new book to my Goodreads TBR on a daily basis, thanks to all of you! 🙈 A few months back, I read These Violent Delights, and while it definitely made me squirm (I don't do well with... some of the topics [redacted because of spoilers haha] 🥴), it was fun to notice what others enjoyed about it as I read! 📖
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The audiobook I finished today was a booksta pick: The Ten Thousand Doors of January - and I enjoyed it thoroughly 🎧 It reminded me so much of The Starless Sea ✨ Have you read any of the books I mentioned? 📖

Do you enjoy reading classic literature? 🤎
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I'll admit, I've never been the *biggest* fan of classics 🙈 I feel as though that's an abomination for a bookworm, but it's just the truth 🤭 My exceptions are anything by Louisa May Alcott (specifically Jo's Boys), The Chronicles of Narnia, and Anne of Green Gables 📚 I think I enjoy these because they're nostalgic for me - they're the books I grew up with 💁🏻‍♀️
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I found this stunning, vintage copy of the first three Anne volumes in one at Goodwill for $3 and snatched it up right away 😍 I love the worn look to it and the way it smells 👃🏼

Do you have any rereads planned for this year? 📚
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I found myself stating, "I need to read that again," on a regular basis, so I put together a list of some of the books and series I'd like to revisit in 2021 📝 Now I really can't wait to dive into some old favorites and even different formats of recent reads 📖
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
RENEGADES is one of the first ones I added to my list because I flew through this trilogy in a week last year and I'd like to take my time with it when I reread so I can really indulge in the incredible story 🦸🏻‍♀️ I also added THE LUNAR CHRONICLES (on a Marissa Meyer kick, clearly) as well as some of my comfort reads from high school like PAPER TOWNS and DELIRIUM 😱

I don't like to mark my books in any way, but I do want to remember the quotes that impact me as I read ✍🏼 I'll update my Goodreads progress, jot down a note in my phone, or sometimes I'll even take photos of the book and "highlight" the photo 😂
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
One of my recent favorite quotes was this:
"Do you know how you live three hundred years? she says.
And when he asks how, she smiles. "The same way you live one. A second at a time." - The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue (aka quite possibly the most quotable book I've ever read) 💫

Before starting my bookstagram account, I had no clue what a TBR (or “to be read”) list even was. Now, I can’t go without one!

I realize that for some people, their TBR is based on the books they currently own and want to read. However, because I don’t purchase books until I’ve already read them (and I’m certain I’ll read them again), my list is a culmination of series I’ve had an interest in reading, books that have been recommended to me, and new releases.

This is definitely a loose TBR because I know my reading goal for the year is set to 120 and I’m sure I’ll end up reading plenty of other titles outside of these. However, I wanted to at least give myself a few specific book goals! I did the same last year and it was so awesome to look back at the end of December and see that I really had read every book on my original list.

A Curse So Dark and Lonely (Cursebreakers) – Brigid Kemmerer

Malibu Rising - Taylor Jenkins Reid
All This Time - Mikki Daughtry, Rachael Lippincott
City of Bones (The Mortal Instruments #1) - Cassandra Clare

It really helps me know what I want to read throughout the year, so I can never have a moment of doubt. Plus, it lets me order from my library far enough in advance to get the books I want, or to research the audiobook to see if I like the narrator enough to listen to it instead. I definitely appreciate set TBRs!

I’m a list-maker by nature, so being able to check off the books I read each month was so satisfying haha! Good luck with ACOTAR 😉 I have SO many feelings on that series. The Mortal Instruments have been such a hugely popular series for years (and were even turned into a movie and a TV show) but I’ve never read them all. I read the first one back in high school and it gave me heebie-jeebies so I quite it. Totally! I mostly plan out a list like this so I have something to follow throughout the year and I don’t get too sidetracked with new releases or just meandering through old favorites.

Wow! That is quite a list, and there are a lot of fabulous ones coming out this year. I never know what I’m reading next and usually just pick up books at yard sales and thrift stores. I do know a few authors that are tried and true, though – like Beth O’Leary. Such a great one!

Haha and here I am feeling like this is my shortlist! If I read a few of these in addition to all the other books I want to pick up each month, it’ll be a breeze to finish it with my goal of 120 for the year!

YES! It came out last year but I was counting down the days to the release. I listened to the first one on audiobook with my husband and it’s probably he only fictional book he’s ever liked so I plan to listen to the second one with him too (if I can ever get him to sit down long enough to do so haha)

I’ve never made a TBR list, but usually just put a library hold on anything that catches my interest as it comes along – I don’t buy books I haven’t read either, unless it’s fill a bag at the book fair!

Clap When You Land and The Gilded Ones are on my TBR too! Such an amazing list of books here, hope you enjoy the ones you get around to reading. I just finished reading The Flatshare and tbh, I wasn’t crazy about it which is a shame because everyone seems to adore that authors books. I might give another one a try anyway! x

Who are your favorite "cinnamon roll boys" (otherw Who are your favorite "cinnamon roll boys" (otherwise known as "soft boys") from the books you've read? 🥰
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I'm not at all a fan of the real "bad boy" in the stories I read, though I don't mind a tougher exterior with a kind heart 🤎 I've always preferred sweeties, so my favorite "cinnamon roll boys" are:
🦋 Seth from WICKED LOVELY
🌳 Owen from INTO THE HEARTLESS WOOD
⛱ Alex from PEOPLE WE MEET ON VACATION
🛳 Patrick from THE LUCKY ESCAPE
💃🏽 Xavier from INSTRUCTIONS FOR DANCING
⭐️ Augustus from THE FAULT IN OUR STARS

I'm also pretty sure that if the guy on my bookmark from @theseasonalpages was a book character, I'd love him too 🙈 He's bookish and wears nice sweaters, so that's a yes from me 😉 Pick up the Malcolm bookmark with my code ESPRESSO10 to have this cinnamon roll boy reading companion with you at all times 🔖

Do you write down book quotes as you read them? 📝
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

When I read Instructions for Dancing, it made me miss ballroom dancing, which is something I did for 3 years in high school! 👠 I haven't danced like that in so long, but reading this inspired me to begin practicing some again (even if it's in my room, by myself 😂)

I absolutely loved every minute of what was yet another masterpiece by one of my forever favorite authors, @nicolayoon 🤍 So thankful that I was able to read the ARC via @netgalley and I've already pre-ordered the physical copy to read again when it comes out in June! 🌸

Personally, I think that trilogies are the exact perfect length for a series (not too long, but not too short) 🙈 Maybe that's why some of my favorite books are part of trilogies! 🤔 I was thinking about this so much that I actually wrote a full blog post about it last week and I'm now on the hunt to find more trilogies to add to my ever-growing list 📝
