The way I approached my January 2024 reading goals was much different than in months past, but I really enjoyed how it all played out. In this post, I’m sharing precisely how I kicked off the year.
In 2023, I was an insatiable reader and picked up more books than I ever had before. I tried new genres and discovered new authors, joined publishing influencer programs, and reviewed my fair share of advanced reader copies. I also began to experience reading burnout. I never entered a true slump and still managed to read at least a little bit of something every single day, but I started to feel like picking up books was more of a task than a hobby. For 2024, I knew I wanted to approach things in a new way to bring joy back into reading!
My goal for the year is to read less. You read that right. Rather than gobbling up every title I see or hear about on bookstagram, I want to be purposeful with what I read. Instead of crazy monthly TBRs, I’m setting lower numerical goals, only picking things up when I really want to, and allowing myself to DNF if I’m even mildly disinterested in a book. I’m also not berating myself if I don’t manage to read every single book I initially added to my reading list for the month. I think this is going to help me so much throughout 2024!
January is one of my favorite reading months. Not only is it a clean slate, but it’s the month that I prioritize rereading favorite titles. Everything on my TBR for the month is something I’ve read before (some of them more than once). It’s a really wonderful way to kick off the year because I know I’ll enjoy everything I read! Of course, some other books wound up in there along the way (like This Cursed Light and Heartstopper Vol. 5), but for the most part, I just spent time revisiting some of my favorite worlds and characters. It made for a wonderful reading month. Keep on scrolling to see what I read in January.
