Recommend a book that feels like a fairytale 🧚🏼‍♀️ Recommend a book that feels like a fairytale 🧚🏼‍♀️

Recently, I finished THE SUN AND THE STARMAKER by @timesnewrachel ☀️ While it was quite different from the modern, witchy fantasy books I’ve come to associate with her (otherwise known as some of my favorite books of all time), she has created a signature style of storytelling that made reading *this book* feel like coming home 🥰

I felt it instantly when I sensed her intense love for nature and the earth woven through the story, paired with such atmospheric writing that I regularly forgot I was not *in* the ethereal, whimsical world I was reading about 🌌 I felt it again in the way she writes of longing and love so powerful that there’s no doubt the characters will overcome every obstacle they face together 🤎 I felt it once more when I began to cry over supporting characters that (possibly) weren’t meant to elicit such strong emotions in the first place 🥹

THE SUN AND THE STARMAKER was everything I could possibly hope and dream a fairytale would be. It was beautiful and magical, and left me feeling so filled with joy and hope. It’s an absolute masterpiece 🙌🏼

Have you read this or any of Rachel’s other books? 📚

However, maybe due to the V.E. Schwab magic, I absolutely adored Bury Our Bones in the Midnight Soil 😍 It was precisely as toxic as she promised it would be, and I ATE IT UP. It was dark, seductive, sometimes bloody, and there was never a dull moment. I genuinely didn’t want it to end.

15 Novels I Hope to Pick Up in July 2022

It was such fun choosing the books I plan to read in July 2022. There are lots of great sequels, a few exciting ARCs, and some titles that have been on my TBR for far too long.

June was an interesting reading month for me. It started out super strong with several 5-star cartoon cover romances. Then it lagged a bit with a few slower fantasies towards the last quarter of the month. There was one super slow week (for me) where I only picked up two books because I had a friend in town. And of course, there was the joy of reading a bunch of fantastic queer books to celebrate Pride Month! Overall, I’d call it a successful month! I read all of the books on my original TBR (minus just one that I’m scooting over to July) and I managed to add four additional titles to my “read” list as well!

I also wound up purchasing several new books this month, which is something I don’t do very frequently. I bought two of the books I read and loved at the beginning of the month (Adult Assembly Required and The Charm Offensive) along with a favorite from last year (The Dating Playbook) and a book I’m buddy-reading in July (Forging Silver Into Stars). Let’s just say that my shelves are looking super happy right about now! I’m excited to see how I do with my July TBR. Keep on reading to see which titles made it on my list for the month.

The 15 Books on My July 2022 TBR

You can find each book below. Tap on the photo to read the synopsis and tap on the title to buy or preorder. Visit my StoryGraph account to read my reviews as they go live – and check out my bookstagram account for more aesthetic photos of books and coffee! The titles that are starred are ARCs I’ve received to read and review.

The Girl Who Fell Beneath the Sea

by Axie Oh

This was the July pick from my 12-books-recommended-by-12-friends list. I already had this on my TBR, so this just gave me an excuse to read it even sooner. If the story is anywhere close to how gorgeous the cover is, I’ll be a happy camper.

Kiss Her Once for Me*

by Alison Cochrun

OH.EM.GEE. The way I literally screeched with excitement after being approved for this ARC was only a little bit embarrassing. The Charm Offensive is one of my favorite reads of the year so far and I can’t wait to pick up this story!

The River of Silver (Tales from the Daevabad Trilogy)

by S.A. Chakraborty

I’ve been very impatiently waiting since March for this audiobook to be available on Libby and I finally have access to it! I’m so excited to go back to Daevabad!

Forging Silver Into Stars (Forging Silver Into Stars #1)

by Brigid Kemmerer

After seriously enjoying the Cursebreakers trilogy, I knew I had to get my hands on this spin-off the moment it came out. When one of my booksta friends came to visit, we both bought copies and began reading together. It’ll be my “as I want to” read during the month of July.

Belladonna*

by Adalyn Grace

Adalyn’s All the Stars and Teeth duology is one of my favorites ever, so when I saw that she was releasing another book, I knew it was a must-read. Let’s just say that I was beyond thrilled when I was approved for the ARC! I can’t wait to dive in.

Tokyo Dreaming (Tokyo Ever After #2)

by Emiko Jean

Eek! This book is finally available on Libby and I can’t wait to listen to it. Tokyo Ever After was one of the cutest books I read last summer and I can’t wait to find out what happens next.

Sorcery of Thorns (Sorcery of Thorns #1)

by Margaret Rogerson

This book is part of my 30 “must-read” titles for 2022 and while I originally planned to get to it during autumn, I figured that I could use a little extra cozy during the hotter months. I don’t enjoy summer so I’m hoping this will bring me those fall vibes when I need them most!

Fevered Star (Between Earth and Sky #2)

by Rebecca Roanhorse

The moment I reached the final page of Black Sun, I put in a request at my library to read Fevered Star so I could get it as soon as possible. That cliffhanger is still on repeat in my mind. I have to know what comes next!

The Ever Cruel Kingdom (The Never Tilting World #2)

by Rin Chupeco

I’m a sucker for a full-cast audiobook and I thoroughly enjoyed listening to The Never Tilting World. This is another sequel I’m highly anticipating. I’m hoping it lives up to my expectations!

A Winter’s Promise (The Mirror Visitor Quartet #1)

by Christelle Dabos

This book has been on my TBR longer than any other book sooooo needless to say that it’s way past time for me to actually read it. I’ve heard excellent things over the years and look forward to giving it a go.

The Titan’s Curse (Percy Jackson and The Olympians #3)

by Rick Riordan

It’s honestly been so much fun finally reading through this series! It truly took me far too long, but it’s clear that these books are timeless. They’ve brought so much joy into my life.

She Gets the Girl

by Rachel Lippincott and Alyson Derrick

Okay, I’ve been hearing about this book nonstop lately and I just have to read it! I added it to my TBR the second I heard about it coming out and I’m thrilled to finally be getting my hands on it. I sure hope it lives up to the hype!

The Steel of Sapience

by Trinity Landon

Welp – this one has been scooted from June to July after I ran out of days in the month. BUT I’m definitely prioritizing it and really looking forward to the story. I’m already so impressed by the cover and the chapter art.

The Drowned Woods*

by Emily Lloyd-Jones

After finishing The Bone Houses towards the end of June, I immediately looked up the author’s work to add everything else to my TBR. When I saw that she had a new book coming out this year, I searched it on NetGalley and applied to read and review. It was such an exciting moment when I got the acceptance email! I can’t wait to dive into this one, set in the same world as the book I enjoyed so much.

Hello, Goodbye, and Everything in Between

by Jennifer E. Smith

Okay, I’ll admit it, I definitely added this to my TBR after seeing the trailer for the adaptation on Netflix. Jordan Fisher is one of my favorite actors so when he announced his role in the film, I knew I had to give it a read. Plus, it sounds so cute and sappy. I’m sure it’ll provide my good cry for the month of July.

I am interested in a lot of the books on your July TBR. Belladonna isn’t a book I would normally read, but I played the role of Belladonna in my college production of ‘Sleeping Beauty’ so I might pick it for the sake of nostalgia. Also, I really want to get to ‘She Gets The Girl’ this month! I have been curious about ‘Hello, Goodbye, and Everything in Between’ since seeing the movie trailer. But I haven’t been too fond of Jennifer E. Smith writing in the past. Hope your reading goes well!

PS. I am counting down the days until fall because summer weather is not for me.
