After the success of our group read in February, I wanted to host another book club in March! This month’s pick is Legendborn by Tracy Deonn.
At the third book club discussion for February’s read of Wicked Lovely, I took a poll on what our next title should be. The overwhelming winner was Legendborn and I can’t say I’m surprised. I have heard nothing but rave reviews of this fantasy novel since it was released in September of 2020. In fact, it’s become so popular that it’s nearly impossible to find in stores, so I’ll be borrowing the Kindle version and listening to the audiobook from my local library!
It looks like we’ll already have a few of our previous group read members joining us in March, but I wanted to announce this to all of my readers so that anyone who wanted to could join in! Keep scrolling to learn more about the book and to sign up for the group chat.

Let me share the synopsis for this book and tell you about our plan for the virtual group read in March.
Legendborn (Legendborn #1) by Tracy Deonn
After her mother dies in an accident, sixteen-year-old Bree Matthews wants nothing to do with her family memories or childhood home. A residential program for bright high schoolers at UNC–Chapel Hill seems like the perfect escape—until Bree witnesses a magical attack her very first night on campus.
A flying demon feeding on human energies.
A secret society of so called “Legendborn” students that hunt the creatures down.
And a mysterious teenage mage who calls himself a “Merlin” and who attempts—and fails—to wipe Bree’s memory of everything she saw.
The mage’s failure unlocks Bree’s own unique magic and a buried memory with a hidden connection: the night her mother died, another Merlin was at the hospital. Now that Bree knows there’s more to her mother’s death than what’s on the police report, she’ll do whatever it takes to find out the truth, even if that means infiltrating the Legendborn as one of their initiates.
She recruits Nick, a self-exiled Legendborn with his own grudge against the group, and their reluctant partnership pulls them deeper into the society’s secrets—and closer to each other. But when the Legendborn reveal themselves as the descendants of King Arthur’s knights and explain that a magical war is coming, Bree has to decide how far she’ll go for the truth and whether she should use her magic to take the society down—or join the fight.

I’m looking forward to diving into this diverse retelling of King Arthur with lots of great magic and adventure. I hope you’ll join me (the sign-up link can be found below)!
Here’s what you can expect from March’s group read: This is a read-at-your-own-pace book club. The book is a little over 500 pages and I want everyone to feel comfortable reading at their usual speed. So, don’t feel bad if you finish in a day or if it takes you until the end of the month! Each Sunday, I will be logging into our group chat platform, Telegram, to pose a few questions regarding the book. These will be spoiler-free questions to launch a discussion that everyone can take part in! If you’re in a different time zone, no worries. You can answer when it’s most convenient for you. I want this to be very relaxed and fun for everyone involved. If you have any questions, please feel free to leave a comment or email me!
Ooh I’ve heard really good things about this book but I don’t think I realised it was an Arthurian retelling. Now I want to read it even more. I hope you enjoy it.
This book sounds so good! I’m totally adding it to my TBR! I can’t read more than one fiction book at a time or else my brain gets all confused haha. When I’m done with ToG this is at the top of my list to try!
I’ve heard quite a bit about this book and I’m not usually into fantasy books. But I might have to try this one since I’ve heard so much about it! Might have to join you this month!
I definitely look forward to hearing your thoughts. 500 pages is a big commitment!
I’ve been wanting to pick this one up! I’ve seen it at the book store and have come really close to buying it. I’m hoping I get to join in this club and read it with you !

I honestly never heard about Legendborn but I gotta say the synopsis is very interesting. I’m currently reading another book. Maybe next month I’ll take part of your reading club.
Ahh! I so want to read this! I’ve always loved the Arthurian legends and to diversify familiar characters sounds right up my alley!
This is such a cool community idea. In the summer, my sisters and I decided to do a book swap/book club and we’re currently on the classics!
