It’s been really fun to see how cozy fantasy books have become so popular over the last several years. When done well, reading one of these stories can feel like a comforting hug or sitting down with a cup of something warm and yummy 😌

The Teller of Small Fortunes was a book I read last year and enjoyed very much. I have The Keeper of Magical Things on my TBR for this year 🙌🏼

Some of my very favorite cozy fantasy books are...
🌪️ The Nature of Witches
☕️ Legends & Lattes (series)
🪴 The Spellshop (series)
🐉 The Tea Dragon Society (series)
🧹 The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches AND A Witch’s Guide to Magical Innkeeping
 🥖 A Wizard’s Guide to Defensive Baking
🪄 Selcouth (series)
🫖 The Spellbound Sisters (series)
 🗡️ This Will Be (series)
🍄 A Curious Kind of Magic
💀 The Bone Houses AND The Drowned Woods AND The Wild Huntress
🍵 Tomes and Tea (series)

Aaaaand that’s where I’ll cut that list off because otherwise we’ll be here for days 😂

Have you read any of these books? 📚

In honor of my first day at my new job at my favor In honor of my first day at my new job at my favorite local coffee shop (everyone say “YAY!” 🥳)… would you take the characters from your current read for a cup of coffee? ☕️

💎 I feel like it would be so fascinating to take Brynja, Ballast, and Saga from When the Light Returns to go get coffee. I’d have so many questions about their magic!

🐦‍🔥 I would give anything to take the entire group of characters from Ruin and Rising to get coffee. It would be such a dream to talk to the people from my favorite series!

📖 To sit down and have a chat with Diana and Matthew from The Book of Life over coffee would be incredible. They’re both so intelligent and I think I’d just sit there gaping at them the entire time!

♟️Honestly, I’d be thrilled to have coffee with *anyone* from The Inheritance Games universe. They’re BRILLIANT and I want to pick their brains for hours on end.

Last summer, along with the rest of *absolutely everyone*, I watched KPop Demon Hunters... and fell head over heels in love with every single thing about it 🙈

It was a chain reaction of epic proportions 💥 I watched it about a week after it premiered because I kept seeing it online. I liked it, watched it again a week later, LOVED it, suggested it to friends who suggested it to their friends, started deep-diving into all of the behind-the-scenes info, wound up listening to the soundtrack so much that my entire Spotify Wrapped was just songs from that album, still somehow manage to talk about it nonstop to everyone I encounter, and I can’t WAIT for the sequel. Let’s just say it kinda became my personality 😂

Along with KPDH, I spent the last year and some change obsessing over One Tree Hill (first time watching it, got to meet some of the cast last summer, have turned Wilmington into my second home, you know... normal obsessed fan things 😉) and Marielle Kraft’s music (SO FREAKING GOOD. Saw her in concert and got to meet her as well and she’s the sweetest human) 🤎

Do we have any obsessions in common? 🤝🏼

Recommend a book that feels like a fairytale 🧚🏼‍♀️ Recommend a book that feels like a fairytale 🧚🏼‍♀️

Recently, I finished THE SUN AND THE STARMAKER by @timesnewrachel ☀️ While it was quite different from the modern, witchy fantasy books I’ve come to associate with her (otherwise known as some of my favorite books of all time), she has created a signature style of storytelling that made reading *this book* feel like coming home 🥰

I felt it instantly when I sensed her intense love for nature and the earth woven through the story, paired with such atmospheric writing that I regularly forgot I was not *in* the ethereal, whimsical world I was reading about 🌌 I felt it again in the way she writes of longing and love so powerful that there’s no doubt the characters will overcome every obstacle they face together 🤎 I felt it once more when I began to cry over supporting characters that (possibly) weren’t meant to elicit such strong emotions in the first place 🥹

THE SUN AND THE STARMAKER was everything I could possibly hope and dream a fairytale would be. It was beautiful and magical, and left me feeling so filled with joy and hope. It’s an absolute masterpiece 🙌🏼

However, maybe due to the V.E. Schwab magic, I absolutely adored Bury Our Bones in the Midnight Soil 😍 It was precisely as toxic as she promised it would be, and I ATE IT UP. It was dark, seductive, sometimes bloody, and there was never a dull moment. I genuinely didn’t want it to end.

Ya girl is the self-proclaimed biggest fan of the library to ever walk the earth 🌍 Okay, that could be an exaggeration, but most of the time it doesn’t feel like one. I cried with happiness over my first library card as a kid, and I won’t purchase a book until I’ve borrowed it from the library and loved it enough to own it. I have 5 library cards, swear by Libby and Hoopla for all of my audiobooks and ebooks, and at this point, I feel like an Arthur tattoo might be necessary (IYKYK) 😂

15 Books I Plan to Read in May 2022

It’s been so much fun to pick up ARCs, sequels, and titles suggested by my blog and social media audience! In this post, see which books I plan to read in May 2022.

In April, I strayed from my TBR much more than I normally would. I started the month out strong by picking up a “read now” from NetGalley that I was desperate to get my hands on, and from there, it became easier to mood read than I ever have before. Along with that, I grabbed a few from the library that weren’t originally planned, and my Florida vacation made me choose some different books than I normally would. However, I still grabbed most of the books I originally planned to read during the month and only three of them are being moved into May.

This month will be filled with new releases, some more ARCs, and several suggestions from my friends on bookstagram and booktok. I’m quite excited about this particular list because it includes a few of my most anticipated reads of the year!

The 15 Books on My May 2022 TBR

You can find each book below. Tap on the photo to read the synopsis and tap on the title to buy or preorder. Visit my StoryGraph account to read my reviews as they go live – and check out my bookstagram account for more aesthetic photos of books and coffee!

Insurgent (Divergent #2) by Veronica Roth – I was lucky to buddy-read Divergent with someone else who loves the books as much as I do a couple months back. We decided to continue our reread of the series together and while we weren’t able to get to it in April, we do plan to kick off May with this one!

The Art of Prophecy (War Arts #1) by Wesley Chu – Another one I’m moving into May, since I did pick it up on vacation but then put it down in favor of a romcom (which felt more beach-appropriate). This one was recommended for fans of Six Crimson Cranes by Elizabeth Lim. That piqued my interest and I’m looking forward to reading it!

Starsight (Skyward #2) by Brandon Sanderson – While I didn’t particularly enjoy Skyward, I’m all for giving a series a good hearty go and hoping my mind will change as I read. The first book had such an open ending that I felt like I would be bothered if I didn’t at least try the sequel. So, here we are, trying the sequel. We shall see how this goes – especially since I wound up pushing this one from April to May.

Love Times Infinity by Lane Clarke – The author reached out to me a few months ago to see if I’d like to read an advanced copy of this book. It sounds totally up my alley – suggested for fans of Nicola Yoon and Elizabeth Acevedo (two of my favorite authors)!

The Night Shift by Natalka Burian – It’s been a while since I’ve read a really good magical realism novel, so when the publisher offered for me to read an advanced copy of this book, I jumped at the opportunity. The synopsis is really unique and I hope that I wind up loving it.

The House in the Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune – This one has been recommended precisely a trillion and one times on the bookish platforms, but I haven’t picked it up… yet. When my original “12 books recommended by 12 friends” pick for this month fell through, I asked for some more suggestions and someone immediately mentioned this. It gave me just the push I needed to get to it!

Book Lovers by Emily Henry – I’m being wildly hopeful that my pre-order will actually arrive in the month the book is released. I know that sometimes plans change when it comes to media mail, but if this book does in fact land in my hands during May, you know I’ll be throwing everything aside to read it instantly. It’s one of my most anticipated books of 2022!

Part of Your World by Abby Jimenez – I put a hold on the audiobook the day the book came out, but my wait was a little over a month. However, the numbers have dwindled and it’s looking like I’ll be able to listen before May comes to an end. I seriously can’t wait! I adore Abby’s books and I’ve only heard phenomenal things about this one so far.

The No-Show by Beth O’Leary – I preordered the audiobook the moment I heard the casting news. It’s such a perfect combo of voice actors and I just know I’m going to adore it. I love all of Beth’s books so much and the plot for this one sounds beyond adorable. It’s been taunting me from my audiobook library, so I’m hoping to listen right at the beginning of the month!

Court (Crave #4) by Tracy Wolff – It’s been an absolute blast going through this series. While I didn’t obsess over Covet quite as much as the first two, I still enjoyed it very much and I have a feeling this next book is going to really keep my interest. The best part about this series is that it’s really easy to go back and forth between the audiobook and the physical book if I want to switch things up!

The Iron Knight (The Iron Fey #4) by Julie Kagawa – This series makes me feel so nostalgic. I read the first two books several times in and right after high school, but only read the third book twice and I never finished the series for some odd reason. I’m dying to get to the spin-offs, so I’m quite excited to get to this last installment in the OG series.

The Amber Spyglass (His Dark Materials #3) by Philip Pullman – These audiobooks are absolutely beautiful. The first one was my favorite, but the second one was definitely interesting. I’m curious to see how the trilogy comes to a close – and then I’ll definitely be watching the show. I’ve heard really great things and it’ll be fun to see it all come to life in that way.

Raybearer

Defy the Night (Defy the Night #1) by Brigid Kemmerer – I’ve had this book on my TBR since I first heard about its release and yet somehow I still haven’t read it, which feels a bit like a tragedy to me. I guess I’m trying to change that by actually, ya know, reading it this month!

Raybearer (Raybearer #1) by Jordan Ifueko – I posted a video about audiobooks on TikTok and it blew up! In the comments, I wound up receiving a ton of audiobook recommendations and this one was mentioned several times. I already wanted to read it, so when I went to buff up my audiobook TBR, I knew this was a must-add!

The Summer I Turned Pretty (Summer #1) by Jenny Han – Oh, I’m only about 13 years late to this book, but it’s whatever. Somehow I missed Jenny Han entirely during my middle and high school years, but now I’m playing catch-up. This was one I added primarily so I could read it before the show came out! I try to always get to the book before an adaptation, so I’m looking forward to seeing what all the hype is about with this one, especially since I absolutely adored To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before.
