It’s been so much fun to pick up ARCs, sequels, and titles suggested by my blog and social media audience! In this post, see which books I plan to read in May 2022.
In April, I strayed from my TBR much more than I normally would. I started the month out strong by picking up a “read now” from NetGalley that I was desperate to get my hands on, and from there, it became easier to mood read than I ever have before. Along with that, I grabbed a few from the library that weren’t originally planned, and my Florida vacation made me choose some different books than I normally would. However, I still grabbed most of the books I originally planned to read during the month and only three of them are being moved into May.
This month will be filled with new releases, some more ARCs, and several suggestions from my friends on bookstagram and booktok. I’m quite excited about this particular list because it includes a few of my most anticipated reads of the year!

Insurgent (Divergent #2) by Veronica Roth – I was lucky to buddy-read Divergent with someone else who loves the books as much as I do a couple months back. We decided to continue our reread of the series together and while we weren’t able to get to it in April, we do plan to kick off May with this one!
The Art of Prophecy (War Arts #1) by Wesley Chu – Another one I’m moving into May, since I did pick it up on vacation but then put it down in favor of a romcom (which felt more beach-appropriate). This one was recommended for fans of Six Crimson Cranes by Elizabeth Lim. That piqued my interest and I’m looking forward to reading it!
Starsight (Skyward #2) by Brandon Sanderson – While I didn’t particularly enjoy Skyward, I’m all for giving a series a good hearty go and hoping my mind will change as I read. The first book had such an open ending that I felt like I would be bothered if I didn’t at least try the sequel. So, here we are, trying the sequel. We shall see how this goes – especially since I wound up pushing this one from April to May.
Love Times Infinity by Lane Clarke – The author reached out to me a few months ago to see if I’d like to read an advanced copy of this book. It sounds totally up my alley – suggested for fans of Nicola Yoon and Elizabeth Acevedo (two of my favorite authors)!
The Night Shift by Natalka Burian – It’s been a while since I’ve read a really good magical realism novel, so when the publisher offered for me to read an advanced copy of this book, I jumped at the opportunity. The synopsis is really unique and I hope that I wind up loving it.
The House in the Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune – This one has been recommended precisely a trillion and one times on the bookish platforms, but I haven’t picked it up… yet. When my original “12 books recommended by 12 friends” pick for this month fell through, I asked for some more suggestions and someone immediately mentioned this. It gave me just the push I needed to get to it!
Book Lovers by Emily Henry – I’m being wildly hopeful that my pre-order will actually arrive in the month the book is released. I know that sometimes plans change when it comes to media mail, but if this book does in fact land in my hands during May, you know I’ll be throwing everything aside to read it instantly. It’s one of my most anticipated books of 2022!
Part of Your World by Abby Jimenez – I put a hold on the audiobook the day the book came out, but my wait was a little over a month. However, the numbers have dwindled and it’s looking like I’ll be able to listen before May comes to an end. I seriously can’t wait! I adore Abby’s books and I’ve only heard phenomenal things about this one so far.
The No-Show by Beth O’Leary – I preordered the audiobook the moment I heard the casting news. It’s such a perfect combo of voice actors and I just know I’m going to adore it. I love all of Beth’s books so much and the plot for this one sounds beyond adorable. It’s been taunting me from my audiobook library, so I’m hoping to listen right at the beginning of the month!
Court (Crave #4) by Tracy Wolff – It’s been an absolute blast going through this series. While I didn’t obsess over Covet quite as much as the first two, I still enjoyed it very much and I have a feeling this next book is going to really keep my interest. The best part about this series is that it’s really easy to go back and forth between the audiobook and the physical book if I want to switch things up!
The Iron Knight (The Iron Fey #4) by Julie Kagawa – This series makes me feel so nostalgic. I read the first two books several times in and right after high school, but only read the third book twice and I never finished the series for some odd reason. I’m dying to get to the spin-offs, so I’m quite excited to get to this last installment in the OG series.
The Amber Spyglass (His Dark Materials #3) by Philip Pullman – These audiobooks are absolutely beautiful. The first one was my favorite, but the second one was definitely interesting. I’m curious to see how the trilogy comes to a close – and then I’ll definitely be watching the show. I’ve heard really great things and it’ll be fun to see it all come to life in that way.
Defy the Night (Defy the Night #1) by Brigid Kemmerer – I’ve had this book on my TBR since I first heard about its release and yet somehow I still haven’t read it, which feels a bit like a tragedy to me. I guess I’m trying to change that by actually, ya know, reading it this month!
Raybearer (Raybearer #1) by Jordan Ifueko – I posted a video about audiobooks on TikTok and it blew up! In the comments, I wound up receiving a ton of audiobook recommendations and this one was mentioned several times. I already wanted to read it, so when I went to buff up my audiobook TBR, I knew this was a must-add!
The Summer I Turned Pretty (Summer #1) by Jenny Han – Oh, I’m only about 13 years late to this book, but it’s whatever. Somehow I missed Jenny Han entirely during my middle and high school years, but now I’m playing catch-up. This was one I added primarily so I could read it before the show came out! I try to always get to the book before an adaptation, so I’m looking forward to seeing what all the hype is about with this one, especially since I absolutely adored To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before.
Some of the romance novels in this list sounds like my kinda read. Will add them to my TBR. Thank you for sharing.
Book Lovers and the No-Show sound like my JAM! They would perfect to read on vacation. Your photos in this post are absolutely gorgeous!

Amazing picks! I’m super excited for Boo Lovers too and I also haven’t read Defy The Night yet – although I’m planning on reading it soon, haha! I read The Summer I Turned Pretty a couple of years ago and really enjoyed it, so I hope you do too. Thank you so much for sharing, I hope May is an amazing reading month for you x
Loving the looks of Defy The Night, Book Lovers, and The Night Shift! The latter sounds particularly interesting due to its magical realism.
I quite enjoyed the Divergent trilogy and also found the movies entertaining. 🙂
Part Of My World was my favorite read of last month, but The No-Show was a close second. Happy reading this month!
The House in the Cerulean Sea sounds like it would be really fun and unique. I like the idea of a boarding school that houses potentially dangerous kids. Like are they trying to reform them? Just hold them there? Or make their powers stronger? Definitely piques my interest – thanks for sharing!
