15 Books I Plan to Read in April 2022

I started out really strong the first few months of this year and now we’re heading into spring – which is, apparently, the season for sequels! In this post, see which books I plan to read in April 2022.

This month, I was able to read every book I had originally put on my planned TBR list – and then some! I wound up reading over 20 books, which was completely unintentional, but really exciting. There were so many excellent titles that I got the chance to pick up and several of them were the first installment in a series. That means that during April, a lot of the books I’m reaching for are sequels. I was also approved for several ARCs, so I’m bumping those up to priority reads as well. Stay tuned to see my reviews of them all, coming soon!

On this list, I have several ARCs to read and review, a majorly hyped title from booktok, and the third installment in a series that I literally haven’t been able to stop thinking about since I started it. It’ll be so much fun to see what I wind up thinking about these novels!

The 15 Books on My April 2022 TBR

You can find each book below. Tap on the photo to read the synopsis and tap on the title to buy or preorder. Visit my StoryGraph account to read my reviews as they go live – and check out my bookstagram account for more aesthetic photos of books and coffee!

Meant to be Mine by Hannah Orenstein – I was asked to read this book by the publisher earlier this week and I couldn’t pass it up. The synopsis sounded so good. Since it was sent to me via NetGalley, I’m trying to read it ASAP so I can get my feedback ratio back up. I currently have 4 ARCs that I’m planning to read this month!

Insurgent (Divergent #2) by Veronica Roth – It was such a special experience rereading Divergent for the first time in nearly ten years. I was lucky to buddy-read it with someone else who loves the books as much as I do. We decided to continue our reread of the series together and I’m quite looking forward to reliving this sequel.

The Subtle Knife (His Dark Materials #2) by Philip Pullman – I was pleasantly surprised by how much I ended up enjoying the first installation in this series on audiobook. The full cast narration really sucked me into the tale. Apparently, this sequel has a completely different set of characters, so I’m intrigued as to how that will progress the story!

Mister Impossible

All Fired Up (How Sweet It Is #2) by Dylan Newton – Last year, I was lucky enough to receive a copy of How Sweet It Is and I absolutely loved it! When I saw this companion novel on NetGalley, I was so delighted and immediately sent in my request. Getting that approval email made my day and I’m so looking forward to diving in!

Mister Impossible (The Dreamer Trilogy #2) by Maggie Stiefvater – My, oh my, did this spin-off series surprise me. While I enjoyed The Raven Cycle, I was never completely enamored like it seems so many of my bookstagram friends are. However, now that I know all about Ronan Lynch, reading his story (and about the other dreamers), I’m fascinated – utterly and completely. Catch me setting aside an entire day just to binge this one.

Mr. Penumbra’s 24-Hour Bookstore (Mr. Penumbra’s 24-Hour Bookstore) by Robin Sloan – This is April’s “12 books recommended by 12 friends” pick and it just so happens that it was suggested by one of my closest friends! She raved about it so much that it made me all the more excited to check it out. Plus, it’s a title I had never heard of, which just makes it all the more interesting to me.

Covet by Tracy Wolff

As Seen on TV by Meredith Schorr – This was a bit of a random NetGalley request, but I just had to check it out when I saw that it was recommended for fans of Gilmore Girls. I mean, I’m one of the biggest GG fans ever, so it sounded right up my alley. The plot seems adorable and just the kind of feel-good novel I’ll need in the midst of all the fantasy I’ve picked out for this month.

The Atlas Six (The Atlas #1) by Olivie Blake – I actually added this book to my TBR last year after my booksta bestie (and go-to buddy-read partner) recommended it. However, it completely blew up on booktok after being republished and I just couldn’t avoid the hype any longer. I had to check it out for myself!

Covet (Crave #3) by Tracy Wolff – THIS SERIES. It has been a very long time since I’ve been so obsessed with a series – and not because it’s some phenomenal writing or incredibly complex world-building or anything like that. These books are just pure, unadulterated entertainment and I love every second of it. I wanted to drop my entire TBR after reading the first book, just so I could binge the rest. I felt the same way after reading the sequel. There’s something about cheesy, YA paranormal romance that is just incredibly addictive.

The Queen’s Resistance (The Queen’s Rising #2) by Rebecca Ross – After reading the first book as my March “12 books recommended by 12 friends” pick, I knew I had to get to the sequel as soon as possible. I was completely hooked! I’m definitely interested in knowing what happens next. And I’m thrilled that I’m finally getting my introduction to this author before reading her latest, super hyped release.

Our Dark Duet (Monsters of Verity #2) by V.E. Schwab – Another sequel – are we surprised? And it’s Schwab book – also completely unsurprising. I’ve been working my way through her backlist and this was the last of her YA novels I had to read. I thoroughly enjoyed This Savage Song, but the reviews of this sequel are very controversial, so I’m curious to know where it will fall on my own rating scale.

The Hawthorne Legacy (The Inheritance Games #2) by Jennifer Lynn Barnes – Okay, this was a must-read after finishing The Inheritance Games. It’s extra exciting to me that I got into this series during the year that the final book in the trilogy is set to release. It gives me the opportunity to fangirl right along with everyone else when that third installation comes out. It’s quite the twisty-turny story and every bit as entertaining as the masses have stated.

The Art of Prophecy (War Arts #1) by Wesley Chu – I actually received an email from the marketing team at Penguin Random House about this book, recommending that I request it on NetGalley since I read and reviewed Six Crimson Cranes by Elizabeth Lim last year. That immediately piqued my interest and after reading the synopsis, I knew it was a good fit. It’s not one I had heard about aside from that email, but y’all know I’m all about underrated books. I’m looking forward to reading it!

Starsight (Skyward #2) by Brandon Sanderson – Alright, so, this one is a little bit funny to me. I didn’t particularly enjoy Skyward. That being said, I’m all for giving a series a good hearty go and even reading the entire collection just to see if my mind will change. The first book had such an open ending that I felt like I would be bothered if I didn’t at least try the sequel. So, here we are, trying the sequel. We shall see how this goes.

Among the Beasts & Briars by Ashley Poston – While this book was originally in my February picks, I moved it to April when someone asked to buddy-read it with me! What I initially said when I added it to my TBR was: “This was an honorable mention for my 12 books suggested by 12 friends since it came a little late (after I’d already chosen the 12). But it sounded so good that I decided to read it anyway! I read one of the author’s romcoms last year and thought it was cute. I’m looking forward to seeing if her fantasy appeals to me even more.”

Crave is insanely addictive. If you enjoyed the 2010’s YA paranormal romance books (yes, like Twilight), you’ll probably love it. It’s not deep or filled with political intrigue or anything like that. It’s genuinely just good, old-fashioned entertainment and fluff. And I love every second of it. I’m excited to see what I think of The Atlas Six. And heck yes, The Inheritance Games is fantastic! SO interesting and kept me on the edge of my seat!

Are there any series you’re hoping to finish this Are there any series you’re hoping to finish this year? 📚
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Typically, I’m someone who flies through series and prioritizes finishing them as soon as I possibly can. However, over the last few years, I’ve done a poor job completing all of the series I start, so I’m trying to make it a goal to finish them up! 👏🏼
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Some series that I’ve got on my list to finish:
📖 Girls of Paper and Fire
📖 Legacy of Orïsha (especially with the adaptation news!)
📖 Beasts of Prey
📖 The Inheritance Cycle
📖 The Atlas
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I’ve also got several that I’d like to start… but that’s another story entirely. 🙈
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Have you read any of these? 🤎

I read The Charm Offensive a few years ago and instantly fell in love with Alison’s writing and the way the book made me feel so seen. 🥰
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
When I got an ARC of Kiss Her Once for Me, I was thrilled and once again inhaled the book. Yet again, it was a story that made me feel understood. 🥹
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I pretty much sobbed my way through Here We Go Again on audio and immediately purchased a physical copy so I could put myself through both the heartache and deep belly laughing again and again. 😅

@alisoncochrun is forever and ever going to be an auto-buy author for me. 🤎

Are you planning any rereads this year? 🔁 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Are you planning any rereads this year? 🔁
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Rereading is something that I absolutely love to do. While there are countless new releases to get excited about, there’s something incredibly comforting about revisiting my favorite books. 🥹
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
One of my favorite series to reread is SHADES OF MAGIC. Nothing gets me quite as excited and emotional as those opening words: “Kell wore a very peculiar coat…” 🙌🏼 AH! Just writing that makes me anxious to pick up this comfort series again this year. 🙈
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Have you read this phenomenal series? 📚
