April 2021 Book Releases

Get ready, friends, because the book releases in April are about to blow you away!

There are so many great releases in April that I couldn’t even narrow it down to just 30 (which is still a lot)! I’m so excited about several of these, like Life’s Too Short (the third installment in The Friend Zone series), The Road Trip (by one of my all-time favorite authors, Beth O’Leary), Second First Impressions (written by the author whose work was my introduction to contemporary romance), and Go the Distance (I’m currently reading an ARC of this and enjoying it thoroughly). Along with these, I discovered so many others to add to my never-ending TBR!

I noticed a few themes this month like a lot of yellow covers and contemporary fiction releases. I’m really looking forward to so many of these and I hope this list gives you some new titles to check out as well!

The Crown of Gilded Bones (Blood and Ash #3) by Jennifer L. Armentrout | Release Date: April 20

She’s been the victim and the survivor…

Poppy never dreamed she would find the love she’s found with Prince Casteel. She wants to revel in her happiness but first they must free his brother and find hers. It’s a dangerous mission and one with far-reaching consequences neither dreamed of. Because Poppy is the Chosen, the Blessed. The true ruler of Atlantia. She carries the blood of the King of Gods within her. By right the crown and the kingdom are hers.

The enemy and the warrior…

Poppy has only ever wanted to control her own life, not the lives of others, but now she must choose to either forsake her birthright or seize the gilded crown and become the Queen of Flesh and Fire. But as the kingdoms’ dark sins and blood-drenched secrets finally unravel, a long-forgotten power rises to pose a genuine threat. And they will stop at nothing to ensure that the crown never sits upon Poppy’s head.

A lover and heartmate…

But the greatest threat to them and to Atlantia is what awaits in the far west, where the Queen of Blood and Ash has her own plans, ones she has waited hundreds of years to carry out. Poppy and Casteel must consider the impossibleβ€”travel to the Lands of the Gods and wake the King himself. And as shocking secrets and the harshest betrayals come to light, and enemies emerge to threaten everything Poppy and Casteel have fought for, they will discover just how far they are willing to go for their peopleβ€”and each other.

And now she will become Queen…

Second First Impressions by Sally Thorne | Release Date: April 13

Distraction (n): an extreme agitation of the mind or emotions.

Ruthie Midona has worked the front desk at the Providence Luxury Retirement Villa for six years, dedicating her entire adult life to caring for the Villa’s residents, maintaining the property (with an assist from DIY YouTube tutorials), and guarding the endangered tortoises that live in the Villa’s gardens. Somewhere along the way, she’s forgotten that she’s young and beautiful, and that there’s a world outside of workβ€”until she meets the son of the property developer who just acquired the retirement center.

Teddy Prescott has spent the last few years partying, sleeping in late, tattooing himself when bored, and generally not taking life too seriouslyβ€”something his father, who dreams of grooming Teddy into his successor, can’t understand. When Teddy needs a place to crash, his father seizes the chance to get him to grow up. He’ll let Teddy stay in one of the on-site cottages at the retirement home, but only if he works to earn his keep. Teddy agreesβ€”he can change a few lightbulbs and clip some hedges, no sweat. But Ruthie has plans for Teddy too.

Her two wealthiest and most eccentric residents have just placed an ad (yet another!) seeking a new personal assistant to torment. The women are ninety-year-old, four-foot-tall menaces, and not one of their assistants has lasted a full week. Offering up Teddy seems like a surefire way to get rid of the tall, handsome, unnerving man who won’t stop getting under her skin.

Ruthie doesn’t count on the fact that in Teddy Prescott, the Biddies may have finally met their match. He’ll pick up Chanel gowns from the dry cleaner and cut Big Macs into bite-sized bits. He’ll do repairs around the property, make the residents laugh, and charm the entire villa. He might even remind Ruthie what it’s like to be young and fun again. But when she finds out Teddy’s father’s only fixing up the retirement home to sell it, putting everything she cares about in jeopardy, she’s left wondering if Teddy’s magic was all just a faΓ§ade.

Witches Steeped in Gold (Witches Steeped in Gold #1) by Ciannon Smart | Release Date: April 20

Divided by their order. United by their vengeance.

Iraya has spent her life in a cell, but every day brings her closer to freedom – and vengeance.

Jazmyne is the Queen’s daughter, but unlike her sister before her, she has no intention of dying to strengthen her mother’s power.

Sworn enemies, these two witches enter a precarious alliance to take down a mutual threat. But power is intoxicating, revenge is a bloody pursuit, and nothing is certain – except the lengths they will go to win this game.

This Jamaican-inspired fantasy debut about two enemy witches who must enter into a deadly alliance to take down a common enemy has the twisted cat-and-mouse of Killing Eve with the richly imagined fantasy world of Furyborn and Ember in the Ashes.

Yet when she arrives, it seems her troubles have only just begun. Convincing the taciturn Wesley to stop avoiding her and compromise is a task more formidable than the other dying wishes Great-Aunt Violet left behind. Malice by Heather Walter | Release Date: April 13

A princess isn’t supposed to fall for an evil sorceress. But in this darkly magical retelling of β€œSleeping Beauty,” true love is more than a simple fairy tale.

Once upon a time, there was a wicked fairy who, in an act of vengeance, cursed a line of princesses to die. A curse that could only be broken by true love’s kiss.

You’ve heard this before, haven’t you? The handsome prince. The happily-ever-after.

Utter nonsense.

Let me tell you, no one in Briar actually cares about what happens to its princesses. Not the way they care about their jewels and elaborate parties and charm-granting elixirs. I thought I didn’t care, either.

Until I met her.

Princess Aurora. The last heir to Briar’s throne. Kind. Gracious. The future queen her realm needs. One who isn’t bothered that I am Alyce, the Dark Grace, abhorred and feared for the mysterious dark magic that runs in my veins. Humiliated and shamed by the same nobles who pay me to bottle hexes and then brand me a monster. Aurora says I should be proud of my gifts. That she . . . cares for me. Even though it was a power like mine that was responsible for her curse.

But with less than a year until that curse will kill her, any future I might see with Aurora is swiftly disintegratingβ€”and she can’t stand to kiss yet another insipid prince. I want to help her. If my power began her curse, perhaps it’s what can lift it. Perhaps, together, we could forge a new world.

Nonsense again.

Because we all know how this story ends, don’t we? Aurora is the beautiful princess. And Iβ€”

I am the villain.

The Sweeney Sisters: A Novel by Lian Dolan | Release Date: April 6

An accomplished storyteller returns with her biggest, boldest, most entertaining novel yetβ€”a hilarious, heartfelt story about books, love, sisterhood, and the surprises we discover in our DNA that combines the wit of Jonathan Tropper with the heart of Susan Wiggs.

Maggie, Eliza, and Tricia Sweeney grew up as a happy threesome in the idyllic seaside town of Southport, Connecticut. But their mother’s death from cancer fifteen years ago tarnished their golden-hued memories, and the sisters drifted apart. Their one touchstone is their father, Bill Sweeney, an internationally famous literary lion and college professor universally adored by critics, publishers, and book lovers. When Bill dies unexpectedly one cool June night, his shell-shocked daughters return to their childhood home. They aren’t quite sure what the future holds without their larger-than-life father, but they do know how to throw an Irish wake to honor a man of his stature.

But as guests pay their respects and reminisce, one stranger, emboldened by whiskey, has crashed the party. It turns out that she too is a Sweeney sister.

When Washington, DC based journalist Serena Tucker had her DNA tested on a whim a few weeks earlier, she learned she had a 50% genetic match with a childhood neighborβ€”Maggie Sweeney of Southport, Connecticut. It seems Serena’s chilly WASP mother, Birdie, had a history with Bill Sweeneyβ€”one that has remained totally secret until now.

Once the shock wears off, questions abound. What does this mean for William’s literary legacy? Where is the unfinished memoir he’s stashed away, and what will it reveal? And how will a fourth Sweeney sisterβ€”a blond among redheadsβ€”fit into their story?

By turns revealing, insightful, and uproarious, The Sweeney Sisters is equal parts cautionary tale and celebrationβ€”a festive and heartfelt look at what truly makes a family.

Wow my tbr list just expanded substantially! I have to say that I’m most excited about These Feathered Flames. The cover looks gorgeous and the plot seems like something I’d enjoy. Always been a fan of Slavic fairytale inspired stories

There are so many books I would love to read on this list. I knew there would be many book releases this month but I honestly had no idea they were this many. The road trip and second first impressions are already on my tbr list and I would love to add Life’s too short ant Twice shy to my TBR because I am trying not to take on too much hahaha. This was a great post anyways.

Do you have any auto-buy authors? πŸ’³
β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €
I'm SO picky with this list because, as a rule, I don't buy books unless I've read them already and loved them enough to read them again πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™€οΈ BUT there are a few authors who are exceptions to this because I've literally never been disappointed by their books and I just want to support them in any way I can so I'll pre-order, order multiple copies, and screech about their books til my throat gets raw 🀎
β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €
πŸ‚ Rachel Griffin - the first book I read by her was The Nature of Witches and I was instantly in love with her atmospheric writing and the way every book makes me appreciate nature
🌲 Joanna Ruth Meyer - the first book I read by her was Echo North and now I've reread several of her books countless times and own multiple copies of my fave
πŸ₯² Justin A Reynolds - the first book I read by him was Opposite of Always and literally every one of his books makes me both laugh til my belly aches and cry my eyes out
β˜€οΈ Emily Henry - the first book I read by her was Beach Read and now I crown her the romance queen and live for every summer-y release
πŸ™οΈ John Green - the first book I read by him was Paper Towns and it remained my favorite book for many, many years, even after the hype surrounding TFiOS... I learn from everything he writes
