Ten Things You May Not Know About Me

I know people typically take an opportunity such as a birthday or a blogiversary to share interesting facts about themselves, but I realized I’ve recently gained some new readers, and figured it might be time for them to get to know me.  And even if you’ve been reading for a while, you may not know these facts quite yet, so read on to find out more about me!

My favorite color is purple – and it has been since I was a little girl.  This past weekend, I actually painted over my purple bedroom that I’d had since I was about 14!  I hardly ever wear it though, so when I saw this top on the Dynamite website, I knew it had to be mine!

I’m terrified of palmetto bugs and cockroaches – my first apartment was in Georgia and it was on the ground floor.  Muggy weather and being close to the grass attract bugs.  Then they find their way into your house, have babies, and crawl over your face while you sleep.  Needless to say, I scream bloody murder whenever I see one now!

My natural hair color actually is red – just not the shade of red I have now!  I’m naturally a light auburn with blonde-ish highlights.  I went red in senior year of high school, and aside from one summer where my crazy self decided to try bleach blonde, I never looked back!  Red is just me.

I can’t work without music – and my mom thinks I’m totally crazy for it.  In high school, I’d have my music blasting while I worked on math homework, and my mom would come in and say “how can you possibly work like this?” And to this day, I still can’t focus without it.  There’s music playing right next to me as I write currently!

My right leg has a birthmark that looks like I spilt wine on myself – it’s actually called a “port wine stain” birthmark, and it spreads from my knee to my upper thigh.  It used to embarrass me, but now I realize it’s just part of who I am.  You can especially see it if I get really hot or cold (you can even see it in the pictures from this shoot)!

I collect smushed pennies – I have them from nearly every place I’ve traveled or landmark I’ve seen.  From Disney World to the Museum of Natural History.  They’re so special to me because they remind me of all the happy times in my life!

I’m allergic to just about everything – you might think I’m kidding, but my allergy list is a mile long, and includes so many basic foods like turkey, potatoes, onions, apples, soy, oats, avocados, and way more.  It’s a pain in the butt to try and find places that serve food that won’t make me sick!

I’ve seen almost all my favorite singers in concert – and even met a few of them!  Right after high school, my friends and I met MAX at a local amusement park before his performance.  I’ve never been so nervous in my life.  He kept just hugging me and saying “it’s okay, baby” which made it even worse!

I auditioned for American Idol – not only did I try out at Disney World when I was 16 (the American Idol Experience was amazing, and I may not have “won,” but it was on Christmas Eve and couldn’t have been more magical), but I also tried out when the bus tour came to RVA when I was 20.  It completely poured while we waited in the rain, and they ended up cutting auditions short, right after allowing me inside.  I didn’t make it, but it’s such a fun memory!

My sister and I are 12 1/2 years apart – but totally the best of friends!  Yep, same parents and no other siblings, so it’s just us.  It was a little strange when she was graduating high school and I was starting kindergarten, but now that we’re both adults, I spend so much time over at her house, playing with my nephews and catching up with her over coffee.  She’s like a best friend, mom, and sister all wrapped into one!  I wouldn’t know how to do life without her!

  1. I loved learning about you!!!! My moms favorite color has been purple for as long as I can remember, too. I also have a ton of allergies (pineapple, latex, kiwi to name a few). You rock that birthmark — I have some as well. They make you who you are!
