Red Equals Empowered

When asked to explain the meaning behind the title “Red” for her 2012 album, Taylor Swift said,

“You have the great part of red, like the red emotions that are daring and bold and passion and love and affection. And then you have on the other side of the spectrum, jealousy and anger and frustration and you didn’t call me back and I need space.”

I agree with every part of that description, and more.  I believe, like so many other incredible women, that red equals empowered.  It’s a bold color that when worn, increases confidence and power.  People are more likely to take you seriously when you’re wearing red; it exudes authority, and no matter your skin tone, “there is a shade of red for every woman” (says Audrey Hepburn).

Whenever I wear red, I’m more assertive and just generally feel better about myself.  Even if it’s something as simple as a red lip, it boosts my self-esteem.  Red is the most emoting color of them all.  While black is typically associated with badassery and sultriness, yellow is known for being bright and happy, and white is pure as can be – think about it, two out of the three of those aren’t actually classified as colors, yet RED is pure power, sexiness, and prestige.

I’ll be the first to admit that I’m not a very confident individual.  While it’s something that I would love to improve on, it’s certainly not my strong suit.  I cling to anything that emboldens me and creates a more confident aura than I generally portray.  I’m shocked that there isn’t more red in my closet.  These shoes were one of my first red purchases, and I’m so glad I got my hands on them last year.  They’re vibrant, quirky, and always turn heads.  I recently added this red ruffle tee to my collection, and for $7, I couldn’t be more impressed.  It’s comfortable and flirty, and when I wear it, I feel like I’m on top of the world.  Sadly, it’s sold out at the moment, but knowing Forever 21, it won’t be long until it’s restocked, and once it is, I’m getting it in every other available color 😂

I think if you think otherwise it’s a self esteem issue, but let us work on that as here goes… You are a beautiful person both inside and out. You’ve made me laugh and cry during the year I’ve had the privilege to read your blog posts and be a part of your life. Your style is immaculate and you never fail in showing us both perfect styling, but unlike most others, you also add a deeper message to your posts that makes one think. You are intelligent, intellectual, funny and I’m a huge fan of yours. You’ve overcome health issues and are still struggling with some, you lived life and have seen both the good and bad sides of it and you’re here, stronger than ever with someone to love by your side, might I add (and he’s hot too, GRR!!). You have everything most people desire in life and I both admire you and am proud of you. So wear that red with that fierce confidence of yours and rock it!
