Mad Love: How to Wear a Band Tee for Festival Season

The Coachella #FOMO is real, ya’ll!  I did get the opportunity to take a road trip this past weekend, but it was definitely not out to sunny California.  Instead, Brandon and I hopped into his car and traveled up the East Coast to New Jersey to visit some of his family.  If you followed along on my Instagram stories, you would have seen us do some bar-hopping, visit beautiful state parks that gave us a gorgeous view of the NYC skyline, and eat lots of great food with family and friends!  Of course, while I had an amazing time making such special memories, I was also envious of everyone sharing their awesome stories of great music and even greater fashion at Coachella on the opposite coast!  I took some of their experiences and used it as inspiration for this post: how to wear a band tee!

If you’re a regular festival attendee, I’m sure you’ve noticed the abundance of band tees worn in so many ways.  From Guns N’ Roses to Aerosmith and more, people are wearing them ripped, tucked in, laced-up, and layered.  Since I recently got the chance to see JoJo in concert, I picked up one of her tees from the merch table as a memento.  At every concert I go to, I try to come home with some form of merch, and it seems tees are my #1 go-to!  For those of you who have read She Saw Style for a while now, you may remember how I styled this one from the Dalton Rapattoni concert, or maybe even this hoodie from when I saw Moriah Peters nearly two years ago.  I own several more, and my family and boyfriend will vouch for how often I wear them – pretty much every day.

For my styling, I chose super simple pieces to pair together.  Since festivals can be hot during the day and cooler in the evenings, with unexpected rain showers in between, I went comfy with easy layers.  My tee is white with brighter colors in the graphic, so I wore it with black shorts and added a blue denim jacket – something that can be tied around the waist, laid on the ground to sit on, or worn over the shoulders when the chill of the night comes around.  Sneakers are totally the way to go, no matter how many other girls are wearing boots.  You’ll be walking and standing the whole day, so you want to choose something as comfortable as possible for your lil’ puppies.  Layer up on the sunscreen, but also bring a hat to shield your head.  Most girls like myself don’t want to smother their scalp in sunscreen and ruin their hair, so a hat keeps you from nasty sunburns.  Last but not least, stick with a crossbody bag to hold only the necessities.  You won’t want to lug around a giant purse and kill your shoulder, so pack light!

If you have the chance to purchase a band tee specifically for an artist you’ll be able to see at the festival, make sure to bring that along.  You never know how many friends you’ll make just because you have similar music tastes!  I’ve had several people come up to me while I’m wearing my JoJo shirt and tell me they love her too!  It’s so fun to see how much you might have in common with total strangers!

  9. I think a band tee makes any outfit super cool and I love pairing it with shorts like you did! I don’t own any but I love styling regular basic t shirts in the summer 🙂

  27. Girl, I feel like we are on the same wavelength sometimes. So sad about missing Coachella, but we need to go one year! I’m obsessed with the more laid back, festival look. Plus, you had me with the graphic tee. I heard JoJo was amazing and loved watching your Insta Videos of the concert! Need to try to see her!

  47. I would have come up to you too because I love me some JoJo! She has such a unique voice and she can actually sing live as well. Not many artists can do that and she’s a TRUE artist! I’ve never thought about getting tees from concerts, but it’s such a great idea. Since I like unique items that can’t be found in stores, it makes a lot of sense for me to do this!
