Before I get into the actual topic of this post, I want to just take a minute to thank all of you wonderful people for the congratulations on my ENGAGEMENT!  Yes, on the day before mine and Brandon’s 2nd anniversary (a.k.a. Wednesday evening), he arranged the most spectacular proposal and #ISaidYes ❤️ You can see how it all went down here, and don’t worry, I’ll be posting the full story soon!

Ahem – now for the fashion post I originally wrote (I added in the above paragraph the night after he proposed)! I cannot tell you the number of times I’ve had a friend text me asking where to get such-and-such item but save money simultaneously.  If your budget is on the smaller side (I’m with ya, sistah), it can be challenging to find pieces that fit well, look good, feel great, and don’t cost an arm and a leg.  I’m going to divulge my two shopping secrets when it comes to looking expensive on a budget:

Wait for it to go on sale

It can be so easy to just impulse buy when you see a beautiful, high-quality item in-store.  However, I’ve learned that waiting for sales to occur can end up saving you a fortune.  I wrote a post earlier this year about an app that will save you bucket loads by saving pieces for you and notifying you when they go on sale, all the way until final clearance.  Let’s just say I ended up getting a $110 dress for only $33, and I don’t know about you, but I think that’s some major saving right there!  I sign up for the sales newsletters from my favorite stores.  This way, I’m aware of their major clearance events.  I love shopping from H&M’s annual 80% off clearance, and I recently scored a bunch from ASOS’ 70% off sale (including this gorgeous top) and the Forever 21 40% clearance sale!

Shop the dupes

I fooled a great deal of people last week when I posted my “Gucci” belt and “Rayban” sunglasses on my Instagram story.  In reality, I purchased these two pieces from Amazon, and only spent $28 between the two.  However, you’d really never be able to tell the difference between my knock-offs and the originals.  I love getting my hands on dupes because then my outfit can look luxuriously expensive while costing a mere fraction of the price.  I especially love dupes for accessories.  I don’t mind spending on basic clothing items, but I like to save the most on accessories since they get the most wear.  I’ve rounded up some of my favorite high end or designer dupes for you to shop right now! (All of these pieces are under $200.  Don’t be fooled by the prices when you hover over them – the prices definitely vary, and a lot of them cost less than shown).
