As a total Potterhead, I’m proud to wear novelty pieces, but I also want to keep it classy. Here’s how to style a Harry Potter graphic tee for fall, and still keep it chic.
Every year, a treat shop in RVA called Carytown Cupcakes does what they call “Cary Potter.” It’s an event that everyone enjoys during the two weeks surrounding Halloween. They bring in a ton of Harry Potter paraphernalia, decorate the entire store, play the soundtrack, and make themed cupcakes. You can get a Sorting Hat cupcake with colored icing inside, determining which Hogwarts house you belong to. There’s also Treacle Tarts, Pumpkin Pasties, Dumbledore’s Favorite Sherbet Lemon, and more!
Naturally, I attend each year, being the total Potterhead that I am (catch the entire shoot I did there last Halloween right here). However, this year, I realized as I was walking out the door to check out their current set-up, that I don’t own any Harry Potter clothing! I felt as though this was a total travesty, considering I own bookmarks, keychains, home decorations, and even a 3D printed Golden Snitch that a friend made for me when I had my Harry Potter birthday party! So, naturally, I immediately placed a pick-up order from Target. I chose a tee that matched my style, my hair, and one of my favorite jackets.

I find that novelty tees, especially ones on the “nerdy” side, can sometimes come across as cheesy. So I wanted to find a way to style this Harry Potter graphic tee that felt a little more on the classy side.
First, I decided to wear this tee with a pair of black denim skinnies. Black pants (and really black clothing in general) literally always makes the look extra sharp. Next was the jacket. I got this suede moto jacket last year and love the rich burgundy color. It was the ideal outerwear for this tee, since the Harry Potter emblems against the gray were also a shade of deep red. Lastly, a pair of leather booties were needed to finish up the look and really tie it all together.
I can’t wait to find more opportunities to wear this outfit, as well as find new ways to style this Harry Potter graphic tee. It was the perfect purchase for this time of year, since HP seems to be in abundance around Halloween and Christmas.
