You know those moments when you walk into a store, see an item, and think, “oh, you’re totally going to be my best friend”? That was the moment I had when I saw this top at Express. Not only was it an adorable light blue and white pinstripe, but it combined two of my favorite trends: ruffles and lace-up! Even better, it was super flattering on me (and who doesn’t love that?) I couldn’t say no, and I’m tempted to go back and get it in the darker color as well!
When it comes to figuring out which trends flatter your build, you have to ask yourself a very important question: what is my build? I recently did a bit of research on this and came to the conclusion that I am a “lean column” – pretty straight all the way down, with minimal curves. This means I need a little help accentuating my assets, so to speak, along with my chest (without making my shoulders appear too broad). This outfit did all of that for me.
This skirt is my go-to when I need that extra “perk” to my booty. It’s short without being too short, and the a-line shape is super flattering on my narrow waist and long legs. The ruffled tank adds just enough detail along the neckline to help me appear slightly larger than I actually am up top, and the lace-up draws the eye without being excessively revealing. While the ruffles form almost a cap sleeve, the top truly is sleeveless, and therefore only shows off the tone to my arms, rather than making them appear too large.
So maybe ruffles aren’t your thing, or lace-ups reveal a little more than you’d like, but possibly off-the-shoulder is the way to go for you, or you’re a fan of culottes to create length to your legs. Whatever your most flattering trend may be, you better rock it, because no one can wear those items quite like you!
