Any of you who have been reading for quite some time and have come to know me well through my blog most likely figured out that my title truly has little to do with the color of my top and more to do with my obsession with the theatre. Think “Ms. Darbus” in High School Musical – that’s how much I loved theatre when I was in school. I still have such a fondness towards the arts, primarily theatre, since I grew up with it and know so much about it. While I may not be up-to-date on the latest and greatest (I still haven’t listened to the Hamilton soundtrack all the way through – don’t hate me), I will never grow tired of my favorite show: Wicked. I could listen to that score twenty times a day, every day of the year, and I would never cease adoring it. One of my favorite songs from the show is “One Short Day (In the Emerald City)” and it was instantly what I thought about when I put on this emerald-green top.
Now that I’ve scared off half my readers with my theatrical mumbo-jumbo and total nerding out, let’s get on to the outfit. Winter has been bizarre this year, with the temperatures coasting along at about 45-60°F during the day. On the afternoon when I shot this look, the wind may have nearly lifted the extensions right off my head, but the sun kept me and my blogger bestie mostly warm – warm enough for a short-sleeved top! I picked up this sheer, lace, emerald top at Target (also available in a light mauve) the other day while browsing for transitional pieces. With spring coming up relatively soon, I wanted to be prepared and not caught off guard on the warmer days.
When looking for early spring clothing items, I tend to pick up pieces that can be as versatile as possible. If it can be warn either beneath a jacket or cardigan, over a short-sleeved top, and easily dressed up or down, it meets the criteria. With this top, I got everything I was looking for, and used it to “dress up” a more casual outfit. I slipped on my favorite pair of skinnies, grabbed my most-loved bag, and accessorized with the cutest tassel earrings of all time. These black tassels are available short or long in length, and in an extensive array of colors. They’re handmade and of the most excellent quality from Court Perk Designs. The owner, Courtney, was sweet enough to give my readers a special discount code: tassel20 for 20% off your purchase!
This spring, I’m hoping to incorporate more texture into my wardrobe. I absolutely love lace, velvet, and all things embroidered! I’ll also be attempting to bring more colors to my palette. I’ve grown so acclimated to wearing black on black on black during these winter months, that a pop of pink or blue will be quite refreshing. What’s on your mind for transitioning your wardrobe from winter to spring?

Ahh you’ll have to tell me if you find it at Target! They have a stunning light mauve color that I think would be even more gorgeous with your skin and hair color! Oooh but the emerald would be too, of course 🙂 I hope you love the jeans! They’re the best pair of denim I’ve ever owned!

That top’s from Target? So chic and I love the casual way you styled it. I too am totally a fan of cuffing my jeans above my booties. Although it can get cold to wear it like that when the temps are down. Love the extensions too! Your hair always looks lovely. And beautiful photos my dear!

I was pretty impressed with Target’s spring styles this year! I did a fitting room diaries on my Insta stories, and every single thing I tried on got so much love! I felt like I needed to go back and end up buying everything I turned down this time around haha! I hear you on the chilliness of cuffing skinnies for boots. I think that’s the best part about the tights-under-pants trend that’s happening right now. I gotta get myself a pair so I can pull it off too!

OMG Wicked is my favourite musical! I watched it only twice – once in London and once on Broadway. They were both a little different, but fantastic. I had no idea you loved theatre so much, but I remember you used to dance and that is really amazing. This green top is so cute and so pretty how you styled it. My first loves in fashion are leather and lace so definitely is one I think looks great on you.
In LA, I always feel a season behind. It doesn’t really get cold until January to February to me, but I love bringing the maxi dresses and leather jackets back out. 🙂

No way!! I have only seen it in person once, and it was when they traveled to my city. I’m so sad I never got to see it with the original cast, because Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth are my two favorite Broadway vocalists, but the current cast is magical as well! I love finding fellow Wicked fans! Oooh yes, leather and lace is probably the best combo of all time – totally femme fatale! I’m looking forward to finding ways to incorporate leather into my spring wardrobe as well!

AHHHH! A fellow broadway enthusiast! Love, love, love Wicked! I must say, I think “What Is This Feeling” is my personal favorite. I mean, besides the belter, “Defying Gravity”. You really should listen through all of Hamilton, though! My mom has got me obsessed. Although, have you checked out The Book Of Mormon? It’s very rated-R, but such a great play and the music is hilarious. They have a song that kind of mocks “The Wizard and I”. It’s amazing! I should probably stop talking about broadway haha. Your top is too cute, and I’ve been totally digging the emerald green deal lately. Such a universally flattering color. Plus the little peek of your tassel earrings, too cute! (P.S. sorry for the crazy theatre blabbing… )

I’ve never seen Book of Mormon, but I’ve heard wonderful things. They came to RVA a few months back, but I missed it! I’ll have to learn more about it for the next time they’re in town!

You are too cute with your love of Musicals. I am not a die hard fan like you, but I do appreciate them and Wicked was one of my favs. While I am not huge fan of color for my outfits, I have been obsessed with this deep forest green and I just adore this top against your hair color. So beautiful! Love this look and you look amazing! xoxo, Christine

Haha thank you, gorgeous! I have to show my true artistic colors every now and again so I don’t get boring! 😉 I’m with you on that! Sometimes it’s hard to bring color into a winter wardrobe, but deep jewel tones can end up making my outfits just a little happier hehe.

Oh gosh I’m so jealous that you’ve seen it so many times. I’ve only seen it once when it traveled to my city, but it’s my biggest dream to actually see it in NY and good Lord I hope that they do a cast reunion one day so I can see Kristin and Idina in the spotlight haha! Thanks so much for the love on the outfit too, girly 🙂

Target is my kryptonite for real talk. I have so much trouble walking in there and not walking out having purchased the entire store haha!

Ha I loved your theater “needing out” rant! I’ve yet to see or hear Hamilton and I’m kinda holidjnh out until I go back to NYC to see it live. I feel like there’s been so much excitement over it that I want my first impression to be in all its glory! But let talk about target and that a gorgeous color! Loving how they are stepping up their game! Super pretty and such a great color for your skin tone.
Stephanie Whitman says
Girl I feel you on that! I think it’s exactly why I’ve been holding out as well! There’s just something about seeing and hearing it all live for the first time that’s magic on another level. The only sad part being that the original cast won’t be around anymore by the time I get around to viewing the show 🙁 Ahh but thanks for the love on my top! It was a seriously wonderful find!

Oooh that’s pretty cool that you have a theater background. Did you act in plays in school before? Theater actually isn’t something I know much about it, but I definitely have an appreciation for all performance arts. There’s so beauty that goes in it!

Hahaha yesss another HSM lover! Oh girl, don’t even get me started because I was high key obsessed (I’m talking posters, pins, autographed CDs and the like haha), and I still annoy B with the occasional “Bop to the Top” car jam hahaha! You should definitely see Wicked in person if you ever get the chance – I hope to see it on Broadway one day. It’s my favorite show in the world! Oh gosh, I edit using a slew of things haha. Firstly, just the photos app on my MacBook, then uploaded into PicMonkey for fine-tuning, and then for my IG I use Snapseed and VSCO 🙂 Thank you so much for the compliment!
